Sunshine Coast Hinterland alt-rock trio Dosed, have announced their debut EP will be released on June 14.
Titled ‘Head in the Clouds’, the EP features six punchy tracks that don’t need to be dressed to impress. Bold, addictive and seemingly true to their name – a single dose leaves listeners hanging out for the next.
As a band, Dosed go back to the basics in the biggest ways. Lifelong mates that grew up around one another and spent years jamming in ‘The Shed’, these guys were a fortunate accident just waiting to happen. Drawing on inspiration from both 70s and 90s rock, Dosed are bringing it back all shaken-up yet still stripped down to the essentials. Amongst the rock you’ll find elements of ska, funk, punk and reggae, and messages that ring the relatable truth about the highs and lows in life. Front man Oskar Campbell explains,
“The overall theme is the daily pleasures but also struggles of being alive. While we enjoy keeping things upbeat and creating a fun energy on stage, the reality is that life’s complicated and full of ups and downs, so this resonates throughout the EP.”
Dosed was officially formed in 2016, after years of playing at parties and encouragement from friends landed them a gig at Witta Woodstock as ‘The Band With No Name’. If formation could be described as organic, this would be the perfect example. It was also inevitable. Despite a considerable age gap and pertaining to different friendship groups, their lives had already been so connected that it was really only a matter of time.
“We had experienced loads of pressure from family and friends but it wasn’t until we were thrown onto a stage that it all came together,” Bassist Noah Webbe recalls, “We just got a gig one day, and we looked at each other and said, ‘well I guess we’re a band now.’”
Since those early days up on the hinterland, Dosed now have over 3 solid years of gathering experience as musicians, performers and songwriters. They’ve been creating plenty of waves on the Sunshine Coast and riding down the East Coast. From rocking out headline shows at SolBar, to playing for crowds at Caloundra Music festival, to supporting the Australian icons Thirsty Merc. It’s these successes that have added layers of certainty and satisfaction to it all.“We love it. What started off as an excuse to go out with mates on the weekends has turned into a commitment that none of us are shying away from’, says drummer Rory Stirton.
With a huge year ahead, Dosed have planned to support the EP with their first East Coast tour. On stage, Dosed always bring a contagious and high-energy presence that makes you feel as though you were also a part of the ‘Jam Shed’ days. After listening to their EP, their live show is something you’ll want to be a part of. One dose is just never enough.
